Three people were killed with 20 others injured when Hausa and Fulani traders clashed at the Lagos State Abattoir, Agege on Wednesday, Punch reports.
Many vehicles and properties were also vandalised in the area with some cattle also being killed by the two warring groups.
Patrol police vehicles, military vehicles and men from the Rapid Response Squad were deployed in the area to maintain peace and order.

The origin of the violence is believed to be when the Nigeria Railway Corporation destroyed some shanties and shops erected close to the railway lines. The Hausa accused the Fulani of encouraging the government to destroy their properties and clear the railway line, to make it easier to transport their cattle via rail from the north to the abattoir.
“The matter came to a head on Tuesday after a Fulani man bought food from a Hausa woman, and refused to pay. There was argument between them and the man assaulted the girl. That was how the two tribes started fighting each other.

“Around 1am on Wednesday, some of the Fulani youths invaded the apartments of the Hausa and killed some of them. By 5am, the Hausa launched a reprisal and injured many of the Fulani and destroyed their property. The Hausa suffered higher casualties,” an onlooker said.
