The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says it is hosting the ID4Africa Conference in April 2018.
The Managing Director of the Commission, Mr Aliyu Aziz, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday in Abuja.
Aziz said he was pleased to announce that the 4th annual meeting of the ID4Africa Movement would be hosted by the NIMC from April 24 to April 26, 2018 in Abuja.
He said ID4Africa is a multi- stakeholder movement that promotes transparent and responsible adoption of digital identity in the service in Africa.
According to him, the aim of the conference is to share experience and establish real world best practices that set the correct expectation for what is involved in launching and sustaining successful identity programmes.
“It transforms individual expertise and experience into sustainable and collective knowledge for the benefit of the identity community in Africa,” he said.
The NIMC boss said ID4Africa was motivated by the need to promote legal identity in Africa and in consistent with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He said the idea was to empower individuals to claims their rights and to benefit from the fruits of development.
Aziz said the origin of the movement is Pan African commitment, adding that the annual meeting of the ID4Africa movement is held in a different African country each year.
He recalled the inaugural event held in Tanzania, followed by a milestone event in Rwanda that demonstrated the strength and sustainability of the movement.
He said the 2017 event was remarkable going by the intensity and enthusiasm seen in Namibia.
The NIMC boss added that Africa looks forward to an event more interesting in Nigeria.(NAN)
